Lee: Do you think you can break into Zorbel's place?
Amanda: No.
Lee: Well?
Amanda: Call me a cab.
Lee: You're a cab.
Be sure to check out a new Scarecrow and Mrs. King website by tjsmklvr. Actually, it's an updated version of her previous webpage Call Me A Cab. Lots of SMK interviews, fan fiction, music videos, memorabilia, and tons of photos and articles on both Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner. Includes promo photos from The Rookies and Charlie's Angles, too. I know Taya spent many, many, many hours putting this site together. Drop her a line and let her what you think.

This video (Beyond The Marquee) is from October 2012 for the Tron 30th Anniversary Celebration at the historic Grurman's Chinese Theatre (now TCL). I was told there was a video "out there" but never bothered to look for it. Fun evening with Elaine and fellow fangirls. Egads! I look like my mother - when the hell did that happen? Yes, I know I am super behind on my blog, especially when it comes to talking about comic conventions I attended this year. There is not a lot to report, as money been a bit tight, and I haven't had the opportunity to do everything I would have like to have done, but I did attend a couple of cons this year and did have a blast being there. The first con was Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, Washington. Just as in the previous years, I volunteered at this con. I enjoy being behind the scenes as well as attending, as you get the opportunity to witness cons from a different prospective. This year was no exception. Most of the weekend was spend working with Molly Quinn (who sadly I have to admit, I did not recognize her name at first. It was not until I saw her did I realize who she was). I have to tell a funny side story. When another "Minion" and I were assigned to work her line, the other Minion asked me who Molly Quinn was, I shrugged my shoulders, and said, "I don't know who Molly Quinn is, but I know who Martha Quinn is." The other Minion asked perplexed, "Who?" *Facepalm* I just showed my age. Anyway, Molly Quinn portrays Alexis Castle on the television series Castle. She was very lovely in person and appeared very genuine with her fans. It was a privilege to "help" her most of the weekend. The two other assignments I had over the weekend was the watching the doors of the panel rooms with afforded me the opportunity to "sit in" on Richard Dean Anderson's (MacGyver, Stargate:SG1) panel. I had hoped to catch him during one of his autograph sessions, but just ran out of time. Hopefully, I can catch him at another con. I also did crowd control for the photo-op lines and food runs for the full-time Minions. Legs and feet ached by the end of the weekend, but look forward to doing it all over again next year. I have always volunteered part-time at Emerald City Comic Con, but next year thinking about becoming a full-time Minion, as they seem be assigned to one specific department. It makes for a long weekend, but it sure can be amusing and the energy from the crowds is contagious. The only thing to remember is for next time NOT to park in downtown Seattle. I made the mistake on Friday afternoon and not only arrived late as there was little parking to be found, but just about had a coronary when the parking attendant told me it was $29 dollars. There went the autograph money I was going to use for Karl Urban (Almost Human, Star Trek). Sigh. The following weekend, my husband and I attended Tacoma Comedy Club and the headliner was Mark Christopher Lawrence (Chuck). After the show, I had the opportunity to have my picture taken with him. He had a great comic routine and after the show was selling items for autism awareness. (A cause near and dear to my heart). He was also appeared very accommodating to have his picture taken with fans. On a side note, I highly recommend Tacoma Comedy Club. The ticket prices are very friendly. Heck, you can't even get into a movie for much less nowadays, and the audience is entertained by live comedians and the food was not half bad either. Then is April, I had the opportunity to attend Fan Expo in Vancouver, B.C. It was a last minute decision after I heard Bruce Boxleitner was going to be there. I contacted my friend, Elaine (who lives in Oregon) and we hastily made plans to drive up to Vancouver. She took the Amtrak train to Olympia/Lacey and then spent the night at my house. The following morning, we woke up early and drove up to the Kingston ferry terminal crossing the Sound, before making our way to 1-5. The weather was nice and we were fortunate enough to witness a beautiful sunrise over the Olympic Mountains. A short ferry ride over and we entered Edmonds and then drove to the Canadian border. Traffic was a nightmare and waited over an hour and a half before we crossed the border and then we continued on our way to Vancouver. We got a little lost trying to find the convention center, but a super helpful cabbie pointed us in the right direction. Once we checked into the hotel, we walked less then a block to the convention center. And then after purchasing our tickets, we went straight to Bruce's booth. He immediately recognized Elaine and chatted away with her. I was a little ticked when even though the Fan Expo's website read Canadian and US dollars accepted, the lady collecting money at Bruce's table was not happy we were paying in dollars. I had not even thought of exchanging the money before we crossed. Heck, the exchange is super close, neither has the edge at the moment. After chatting with Bruce for a good half hour, we wandered the exhibit hall and made some purchases. Then we waited in line for Bruce Boxleitner's panel to begin. We were first in line, of course. When Bruce came out on stage he winked at Elaine. Super jealous! Elaine received the Bruce wink! I liked Bruce's panel a lot, as there was no moderator asking stupid questions and Bruce seemed happy, relaxed, and super talkative. He did allow audience members to ask questions. Someone asked, "What has been your favorite role?" He said, "Lee Stetson, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, right Elaine?" And then mentioned John Sheridan from Babylon 5. He also shamelessly plugged Cedar Cove. After the panel, Elaine and I continued to hang around Bruce's table chit-chatting with him between the time other fans came up to get his autograph, until it became time for him to leave. We asked him were Cedar Cove was being filmed and he told us the name of the two towns where most of the filming was done. So the following morning, Elaine and I drove to "Cedar Cove," which in reality is Fort Langley. Fort Langley is a quaint little town, next to the Fraser River. It was Easter weekend, so most of the shops were closed, but hope to visit again as it looks like a fun place to shop and visit. We ate breakfast at the cutest little 50's style restaurant (Planet Java) and then walked around town until we found the fake facades for the Cedar Cove Chronicle and Cedar Cove Art Gallery. Yep, most definitely hope to visit again some day. Written By: Guest Blogger Valerie
I loved Scarecrow and Mrs. King from the very first moment. I was only about five and a half when it first aired. As I got older I grew to love the show even more. I knew Bruce Boxleitner was from the movie The Gambler. From the time I was old enough to talk I would sing. Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers were the first celebrities I 'knew'. Transferring my 'star eyes' to Bruce and Kate Jackson was easy. Growing up was not always easy for me. Family situations and lack of good communication left me feeling lonely. (Long story) I would throw myself into watching SMK reruns and recording them. (Good ole' VHS!) I would write my own versions of the show. Once I asked friends if they would 'act out' what I had written. At the time there was no internet. I had no idea there were other people out there doing the same thing. Weird, huh? Looking back, I know I could have saved myself a lot of personal heartache by speaking up. At the time, I felt lonely and sad. SMK, Kate and Bruce kept me from going off the tracks. Why? I had so much respect for Kate and Bruce as people. All the things they had gone through in life, how strong they were (are). They made me want to be the best person I could be. I would tell myself: If I ever had the chance to meet them someday I would want to be proud of me. If I ever worked with them, I would want them to be proud of me. Not worry about what a tabloid might 'dig up'. I can not tell you how many times loving the show and them saved me from making some really bad choices. Oddly enough, all these years later, I still feel the same, even though, I have never met them and probably never will. When my hubby and I were engaged and expecting our first baby, I was cleaning all the things I didn't need. My baby took priority over everything. My pile of writings, news clippings, etc. were dropped with a loud thud to the bottom of the box I was using for garbage. My heart felt like it landed with a thud, too. But I did it anyway. My Grandmother looked at me mortified. She knew how much all that meant to me. I never went anywhere without my pencil and paper. I wrote all the time. Of course, I am sorry I did that now. I began writing again after moving four hours from the home I'd known my whole life. It was like holding a friend close. Watching the show while I was home alone with my babies, it became my company - again. Chasing away the loneliness. I try not to watch it much, as once I start, it's hard to stop, but I have everything. All the VHS recordings I made, all the TV on VHS that came out once upon a time - where we ended up with 20 episodes. And of course, I now have the DVDs. I can only hope that someday the archives are dug through and we end up getting to see bloopers and behind the scene recordings. Maybe interviews that were long lost and never aired, etc. (I did just read Dava's recap, I wonder what those bloopers were?!) I would love to bring the show back. If I ever win the lotto. . . But for now, reading and writing fan fiction and watching the show, or fan made videos, or just chatting with fellow fans, can turn a gloomy day into a sunny one. My kids like the show. My oldest likes it best. I'm hoping we can watch some episodes over Christmas break. Who knows, he may write his own fan fiction someday? Like I said, I have never met Kate and Bruce. I would probably cry and not be able to speak. Then once I was able to speak I wouldn't be able to stop. It's crazy, but there it is. I've met 'celebrities' before. Some were nice and some were jerks. So like the Shania Twain song, meeting 'stars' "doesn't impress me much". It's who they are as person that matters. And in my opinion, we were very blessed to have a wonderful show with some pretty amazing people. SMK wouldn't have been what it was without Kate and Bruce. Because of work commitments, I was unable to attend the Scarecrow and Mrs. King 30th Anniversary, so I asked my good friend, Dava, to write a recap of the events. Thank you, Dava for taking the time to write this.
*************************************************************************************************************************** SMK 30TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION TRIP Written by: Guest Blogger Dava DATE: October 4 - 5, 2013 PLACE: Beverly Garland Holiday Inn Hotel, Los Angeles, California EVENT: SMK 30th Anniversary Reunion ATTENDEES: 58 Fans of the Show, Bruce Boxleitner aka Scarecrow/Lee Stetson, Martha Smith aka Francine Desmond, Greg Morton aka Jamie King, Myron Natwick aka Dr. Smyth, Richard Herd aka Jake (Photo Finish), and Dennis Duckwall, Producer FRIDAY: October 4, 2013 - WB (Warner Brothers) TOUR A group of about 50 of us met at the WB VIP Tour Lobby. We saw a short film about how Warner Brothers Studios was started. It was very interesting, and I learned a lot. We then split into three tour groups: A, B, and C. I was in tour group B. Our tour guide said it was group B for "Boxleitner" or "Bruce" or his name "Brad". Brad was an excellent tour guide and had watched Scarecrow and Mrs. King "The First Time" and a few other episodes so that he could discuss the show with us. We were so excited when we saw the stairs that Lee/Scarecrow comes down in the opening credits. We also saw the stairs to Nedlingers (stairs may have been at "The Ranch" below), grassy area that was Rock Creek Park, and the wooded area used for "Utopia Now". Our biggest surprise was we got a special tour of "The Ranch". "The Ranch" is part of Warner Brothers lot, but down the road. It was an outdoor walking tour. We saw & took a tour of one of Amanda's houses. I took a picture of the bookcase and gate door. It was so cool standing in Amanda's living room. We also saw "Harry V Thorton's" balcony where he had put out the flowers for Amanda (Tail of the Dancing Weasel), "Sonia's" house on (Stemwinder), and the house where Amanda squirted the hose to take out the bad guys (Fearless Dotty). SATURDAY: October 5, 2013 - THE 30th EVENT AUTOGRAPH SESSION AND RAFFLE: The doors opened at 9:00 AM for a three hour autograph session. Autographs were $10 each which you were given a ticket for. There were also $5 each tickets for a raffle drawing to be held later in the day. You could buy as many tickets as your money would allow. Each star was at a table and you went to that stars line. Of course, Bruce's line was the longest. I went to each line getting autographs from each star. Bruce and I being friends caught up. We had not seen each other since November 2012. I found all of the stars very warm, funny and gracious. The first three hours flew by. At 12:00 PM, we broke for an hour for lunch. The afternoon session resumed at 1:00 PM for more autograph signing as well as the raffle drawing. I actually won a raffle. I won some SMK trivia cards, some fanfiction stories and an old program from the SMK 20th Anniversary. I was thrilled to win anything. The next three hours also flew by and we stopped for a two-hour break before dinner. Dinner was to be at 6:00 PM. We all went to freshen up and get dressed up for the evening dinner. Stars had a room at the hotel to rest. DINNER: We entered the dining room at 6:00 PM and went to each table to find our name card. I was seated at Martha Smith's, Francine Desmond, table right next to her. We were told that dinner was served buffet style where you go up to get your food yourself. It was an Italian themed dinner. We had a green salad, several pasta dishes, antipesto dish, marinara dish and chicken picata. Cake was for dessert. Martha was very gracious and wonderful. She asked us where we were from, what was our favorite SMK episode and our favorite Francine moments. She giggled and was lovely. Martha's favorite episode is "Life of the Party". Because Martha's birthday is coming soon, she was surprised with a birthday gift and chocolate birthday cake. Bruce presented her with her "gift". Yes, it was a feather duster. She laughed when she opened the gift. They brought out the chocolate birthday cake with three candles. We all sang to her, and she blew out the candles. I asked her if she loved chocolate as much as Francine did, and she said "Yes". HA DINNER ~ VIDEO and AUDIO: We were treated to a short bloopers video (no, not for sale anywhere... sorry), a video tribute from Beverly Garland, Bruce and Martha to Mel Stewart. A video tribute to Sam Melville from Bruce and Martha. The audio was a message from Kate Jackson that her friend and assistant, Mike, had personally delivered to us just for the event. Bruce and Martha were very moved by Kate's words, as were we all. DINNER ~ Q&A: Question and Answer session included Bruce, Martha, and Greg. Richard Herd, Dennis Duckwall and Myron Natwick had left. They joked that two microphones were needed or Bruce would do all the talking himself. Various audience members asked questions. Greg was asked a lot about being a child actor. Martha was asked about her wardrobe and how she softened towards Amanda as the show went on. Bruce was asked about his stunts, locations, etc. Lots of laughter and fond memories by the stars and us as well. This lasted until midnight. Bruce went outside before he left and hung around. I was able to get a few minutes of private time catching up. He also chatted with others. They said their "goodnights" to us. Then my roomies and I went up to our hotel room. Goodnight all. I thought it would be interesting to have other fans of Scarecrow and Mrs. King blog about the show and describe the influence the show had on their lives. Valerie jumped to the challenge and wrote a piece introducing herself. If others feel the desire to share on the site, I welcome them to contact me. **************************************************************************************************************************** Hi everyone! Most of you probably know me. I'm a wife and a mom. I have worked off and on over the years and have enjoyed getting to know people. I'm a people person. I love making friends. And I keep secrets with the best of them. . .
I have had many things happen in my life that have made me sad. I was a silly kid. If I could go back, I wouldn't have spent so much time crying. After all, life has turned out okay. I have some pretty amazing kids and my husband isn't too bad either. However, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner kept me feeling more than okay when I felt lonely or sad during my growing up years. When Anne asked if I'd like to write some things, I started typing. That was over a week ago. I've written a ton. But deciding where to start was hard. Until now. On Facebook, everyone is giving people numbers. Anne posted a list. That's when I realized we have quite a lot in common. This is my list (I won't post it to Facebook). I'm looking forward to seeing Bruce Boxleitner is this movie. Amazon has it available for pre-order to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray October 29, 2013. October 3, 1983 - Scarecrow and Mrs.King premiered on American television screens and thirty years later after the show ended there are fans who still love, write, and talk about this series. Little did I know that over the years I would meet friends from around the world who love and enjoy this show as much as I do. We had many wonderful seasons and episodes (although I still wish we had had more seasons!) This weekend in Burbank, California fans are gathering for the SMK 30th Anniversary Reunion. I'm sorry I will not be able to attend as I had a fantastic time at the 25th; however, due to the government shutdown and other financial obligations, I will miss out this year. I hope those who are lucky enough to attend have an amazing time and say "Hello" to Bruce Boxleitner for me.
I love both shows equally, although Scarecrow and Mrs. King still edges out Chuck as being my favorite television series of all time. Nonetheless, I thought it would be fun to take a moment to discuss the similarities between the two shows.
Scarecrow and Mrs. King was a American action-comedy/spy-drama television serial that aired between 1983-1987. Usually somewhere in the middle of the Nielsen rating numbers, it did quite well in it's time slots until the lead actress was diagnosed with cancer and the show was not renewed. The show ran successfully for four seasons and finished with 88 episodes. Chuck was an American action-comedy/spy-drama television serial that aired between 2007-2012. Always on the cancellation bubble, it struggled to stay on network television, but after successful fan-mounted campaigns, the series ended with 91 episodes. Although, there is no proof the creators of Chuck watched Scarecrow and Mrs. King, I find many of the similarities quite humorous and a bit suspect. To begin with, the whole premise of the show. Both revolved around ordinary people becoming paired with the loner spy and being thrust unexpectedly into the world of espionage. Amanda, a mother of two and a homemaker, is passed secret government information by a spy who is in trouble. While Chuck is a young man working at a computer store, who is passed secret government information by a spy who is in trouble. Both Chuck and Amanda help the agents they are paired with by often thinking outside the box and using unconventional ways of taking out the bad guys. In addition, both Chuck and Amanda dislike guns, although both as they progressed as agents learned how to handle them. I also have to add a similar plot device, in Scarecrow and Mrs. King Amanda put sugar in a gas tank to help her and Lee escape, while in Chuck, Lester put sugar in the gas tank to stop the baddies from kidnapping Casey's daughter. Both shows focused heavily on relationships. For Amanda it was her mother and two boys, while Chuck had a close relationship with his sister. For both of them family meant everything. While Lee and Sarah were the hardened agents, both with circumstances that lead to them growing up in a hurry and each having to deal with the element of abandonment. Of course, these tough agents were never supposed to fall in love with their partners for it was against the cardinal rule of spying; however, cover kisses lead to real kisses, and denial lead to dating others and finally them getting together and getting married. Both shows also had a great ensemble cast. There are several other reasons; i.e. both shows were filmed at Warner Bros. Studios, both shows moved to Friday nights their last season and lost viewers, and both shows ended before they should have. In addition, most fans feel the last three or four episodes do not exist; Scarecrow and Mrs. King, because of Kate's illness and the star being unavailable to film those last episodes, and Chuck, because the final story line had Sarah losing her memories and forgetting Chuck and the five years they had together. Of course, the series finale, fans cried in agony as we did not get closure or our "happily ever-after." I feel the same way about Scarecrow and Mrs. King because us fans never got closure or had the chance to say goodbye to the characters we had grown to love over the years. Finally, both shows have the brilliant and talented Bruce Boxleitner. In Scarecrow and Mrs. King, he was of course Lee Stetson, codename Scarecrow, while in Chuck he was Dr. Woody Woodcomb, also known as, Captain Awesome's dad. Then the most humorous coincidence was the house on 4247 Warner Avenue. In Scarecrow and Mrs. King this was Amanda's house on the fictional street of Maplewood Drive in Arlington, Virginia, but in Chuck the same house was used as Sarah's dream house. The house she longed to live in with the white picket fence and red door, where she and Chuck could grow old together, and she could finally live the normal life she had always dreamed about. For those who have watched both shows, I would love to hear your thoughts. Although, I am a little miffed and sadden Bruce Boxleitner will not be attending the 20th Anniversary of Babylon 5 at Phoenix Con this weekend (that man keeps alluding me), I am happy he's going to be back on television. He has been cast as a series regular in Hallmark Channel's Cedar Cove, based on Debbie Macomber's "Cedar Cove" books.
A little bit of irony, Cedar Cove is a fictional town based on the town on Port Orchard, Washington (where Debbie Macomber is from) and just a few miles from us. I know at one point producers looked into the possibility of filming the series here locally, but choose Vancouver, British Columbia instead, due to cheaper production costs. Shot! Now I really wish the series was being filmed here. >>>A little nod to Star Trek and William Shatner and just play-on-words regarding comic conventions or what most of us attendees just refer to as cons. I know I have said it before, I never expected to ever attend a con, let alone enjoy it; however, I have had some great fangirl moments and memories that will last until. . . umm. . . the fall of the Empire. Yeah, that will work. For me, I did not think I would comfortably wear the persona of fangirl, but now I wear my badge with pride.
Ever since Star Wars came out in 1977, I have been hooked on sci-fi. I, of course, loved the three original Star Wars movies (bur don't even get me started on the prequels), Tron, Star Trek and the continuing sagas, Battlestar Galactica, Quantum Leap, Babylon 5, and the Stargate-verse. I also love the Back to the Future movies and the television series Sliders and Voyagers. I am even going to throw Chuck into the mix, since it had the elements of science fiction. Yes, I am a sci-fi geek and I don't care who knows it! I thought it would be fun to touch on some of the highlights of all the cons I have attended over the past few years. DragonCon (Atlanta, Georgia): Billed as the largest on the east coast, it certainly lives up to the hype. Total geek chaos, but in a good way. Lots of cosplay and a large parade in downtown Atlanta. Met Bruce Boxleitner, Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch, Peter Jurasik, Bonita Friedericy, and Dwight Schultz. Attended several panels including; A-Team, Battlestar Galactica, Patrick Stewart, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, Chuck, Buck Rogers, and Babylon 5 (which Bruce Boxleitner missed because he slept in - but still was fun listening to Peter Jurasik, Steven Furst, Claudia Christian, Julie Caitlin Brown, and Tracy Scoggins). Mine and my sister's favorite panel was Chuck with Bonita Friedericy. She is nothing like the character she plays and she is a little stick of dynamite. Her husband, John Billingsley (Star Trek: Enterprise), emceed the panel. Laughed so hard, I had tears running down my face. I also attended a couple writing workshops. Ran into John Schneider and Alan Ruck walking through the hallways.Alan Ruck nodded and said "hello" to me and all I could do was stand there slack-jawed and star stuck. No, "I loved you in Ferris Bueller's Day Off" or anything. *Facepalm* However, I had a terrific time at the con and it was also great getting the chance to hang out with my baby sister for the extended weekend. Emerald City Comic Con (Seattle, Washington): The first year I attended, I went with my oldest son, Michael. He really wanted to meet Stan Lee. Spent most of the con, standing in line waiting for his autograph. Michael then had the opportunity to meet him and get his picture taken. I waited in line to meet Leonard Nimoy (although, I saw him in Atlanta, I did not get a chance to get his autograph there). We also attended Leonard Nimoy's panel. The second year I attended, I went with my friend, Elaine. I was only able to attend the one day, and we spent it getting autographs from Bruce Boxleitner, Brent Spiner, and Jonathon Frakes. We spent several moments talking with Bruce before and after his autograph session. We then attended Jonathon Frakes and James Masters panels. The third year, I volunteered as a minion, although I did have time to get Adam Baldwin's (Chuck) autograph, do a photo-op, and attend his panel. My oldest son came with me to meet Summer Glau the second day. Had a great time being a minion that year, although, I only volunteered that one day in the photo-op area. However, it was great "seeing" Christopher Judge, Adam Baldwin, Jason Momoa, and Lia Thompson walk right past me as I stood guard near the door. Lots of fangirl moments. :) I "minioned" the con again this year, mostly dealing with crowd control, but did get a moment to get autographs from Christopher Lloyd, Michael Shanks, and Jim Cummings. For more details regarding the adventures of being a minion, click this link. In addition, I have already been asked to return as a minion in 2014. Pop Con LA (Los Angeles, California): Had a FANtastic time attending this con, although I felt bad for the actors, because it was poorly attended. However, it was great for us fans, because we had a lot of one-on-one time with the actors. I have already blogged about this con, so click on this link for more details regarding the weekend. Highlights included Cindy Morgan, Richard Anderson, and Bruce Boxleitner. Wizard World (Portland, Oregon): Also already blogged about this con and again click on the link for more details. Highlights included Henry Winkler, Dean Cain, and Bruce Campbell. Phoenix Con (Phoenix, Arizona): Looking forward to attending this con next weekend in Phoenix. I have never been to Arizona and look forward to some sun and fun, but hoping it is not TOO hot. Also super excited about the 20th Anniversary of Babylon 5 - most of the cast and J. Michael Straczynski will be there (except Bruce Boxleitner, who has a filming conflict). My girlfriends and I will be getting a photo of us and the cast. Also planning on attending the Lantern City panel, as I would like to learn more about this project. Also, looking forward to visiting with the lovely Cindy Morgan again and hanging out with my fellow girlfriend 'groupies.' :-) Ready to get my inner geek on! I never considered myself a fangirl. I mean sure, I have my favorite television shows and favorite actors, but I never in a million years thought I would enjoy going to a sci-fi convention. Remember the SNL clip, where William Shatner pokes fun at the people attending Star Trek conventions? I guess he received some dissension from this skit, but come on, it was funny!!
Anyway, that is kind of what I thought sci-fi conventions were all about; a bunch of nerdy people, dressed up in outlandish costumes and really needed to get out more or as Shatner put it, “get a life.” Then it happened, I attended my first con and I was hooked. I love the energy and excitement of the attendees. I love the chance to talk to the actors, get autographs and pictures, and to walk the same halls as some of my childhood heroes. I love meeting new people and connecting with friends. I love listening to the panel discussions and hearing all the background stories we don’t see on screen. I love the costumes and am in awe at the amount of time some of those fans put into making them (although, I admit, I will never show up at a con in a costume. No way, no how). The first con I attended, my youngest sister and we were sitting on the floor waiting for the next panel to begin, and this man in a miniskirt and fishnet stockings, watched past us and we could see up his skirt. I don’t think my sister and I have laughed so much in our entire life. Since that first con, I have attended several more across the U.S., some focused on a specific movie, while most focused on science-fiction and fantasy. There are those who believe the cons have lost the original draw – bringing comic book collectors together and they would like to see it go back to less about the media stars and more about the comics. I will probably get in trouble for saying this, but “get a life!” Yep, I am there for the media stars and the fangirl moments!! Dates for the 30th SMK Anniversary celebration have been set and registration is now open. The dates will be October 4-5, 2013 at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn at Universal Studios Hollywood. It's a FANtastic weekend for the fans of the show and a chance to meet the cast and crew of SMK. There are autograph sessions, a WB tour, a celebration dinner and drinks, and a Q&A panel. Click on the link for more information and details.
If you are interested in reading about the 25th SMK Anniversary celebration you can read about it here. The fourth and finale (sniffle-sniffle) and my personal favorite season of "Scarecrow and Mrs, King" is finally out in stores today. So excited to see my all-time favorite episodes; Night Crawler, Bad Timing and Stemwinder! Think I will just have to make a trip to my local Best Buy or Target after I drop my husband off at work today. Happy viewing to those who pre-ordered. Lee: I love you. Amanda: What? Update: Picked up my copy at Best Buy yesterday. Could not find it on the shelf at the local Target. Nonetheless, Amazon still has the best price. |
